Netherlands - Cadac Holdings Ltd., Luton, Beds. UK. Cadac is supplying the IBC with a MegaCOMMS audio network installation, incorporating CDC seven and CDC eight mixing consoles, for audio networking and control for the ‘IBC Big Screen – Auditorium’.
Designed to IBC’s specifications and featuring the very latest in cinema technology, the IBC Big Screen - Auditorium is a centrepiece of IBC2017. Housed in the RAI with a state-of-the-art cinema projection and sound installation, the four-day conference examines and demonstrates the hottest topics, themes, and insights surrounding the art, science, and business of cinema from capture through to exhibition. The programme includes full screenings of War for the Planet of the Apes and Director Edgar Wright’s latest, Baby Driver, starring Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Fox, in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
The Cadac MegaCOMMS network installation for the IBC Big Screen - Auditorium has been spec’d by Terry Nelson from IBC Technical Resources – specialist in audio and acoustics. The full MegaCOMMS network installation comprises a CDC eight-32 and a CDC seven mixing console networked to two CDC I/O 6448 and two CDC I/O 3216 stage boxes, via a CDC MC Router. The Cadac system will be providing all audio production in the auditorium, outside of the Dolby Atmos screen sound system; this includes the keynote presentations, seminars and awards.
There will also be a CDC four:m and CDC I/O 3216 stage box, along with a LIVE1 2442 console, handling audio in the ‘Emerald Room’ conference facility. The Cadac installations at IBC will be supported by Rob Hughes from Cadac’s technical sales support team.
This is the fourth year in a row that the IBC Technical Resources has spec’d Cadac’s CDC mix technology for the convention’s cinema feature. Commenting, Terry Nelson states, “We are happy to rely once again on Cadac for the audio mixing and distribution requirements for what has become an all-encompassing media conference. The solution has to meet the technical requirements of putting on and supporting a very dynamic show, as well as ensuring high standards of audio production attendees expect for the presentations. With Cadac the sonic performance is second to none and the audio engineering is superb. With the unique CDC mix interface being humanly intuitive, operational complexity of the system is greatly reduced.
“On the practical side, with the use of the MC Router, the MegaCOMMS network enables RG6 cable runs of 150m which allows us to put stage boxes exactly where we need them, anywhere in the auditorium.”
